My Worldview

The first thing I will tackle on this page is my sense of worldview, since it is mostly why this website exists. Zarbworld is where I write about my Weltanschauung. Sometime when I was in middle-school, I became very interested in politics. I was a somewhat cynical kid, who had a difficult time paying attention at school. With mostly absent parenting and an older custom built desktop computer at my disposal, it was me and my Phenom II CPU against the world. And of course, the year was 2016. If you have any awareness of how the political climate has unfolded over the past decade here in America, you probably have an idea where this is going.

There was just really nothing like the year 2016. I think it was a turning point for the world in many ways. For me, the usual day was spent in my dark room talking to friends over skype. We would spend our time playing counter-strike and watching compilations of blue-haired women getting “triggered,” or the new LeafyIsHere video in-between competitive matches. Back then, we only ever queued for Dust II. My understanding of systems like capitalism or communism were about as nuanced as you can expect an edgy middle-schooler’s understanding could be. I basically understood the world through memes. I would watch creators like ShoeOnHead or ChrisRayGun. Occasionally I would watch more conservative creators like SargonOfAkkad or some Ben Shapiro debate compilations.

But there was one figure that seemed to attract me the most, and that was Jordan Peterson. As I was entering high school, I began to face more complex and personal issues. The kinds of issues that are typical of teens at that age. I had no idea who I was, or what I wanted to do with my life. I was deeply conflicted with my identity, and how I should act in the world. I was initially introduced to Jordan Peterson through those anti-SJW cringe compilations, but as I became more familiar with him, I became grasped by his psychology lectures. These lectures were filmed before Peterson’s benzos and culture war-induced neurotic downward spiral. I am well aware of what has become of Jordan Peterson.

Despite the opinions I have on Jordan Peterson today, it was him who sparked the interests in subjects I still pursue to this day. It was Peterson who introduced me to the likes of Jung, Nietzsche, Freud, and Dostoevsky. He not only introduced me to the intuitive, symbolic psychological representation of religion, but also the empirical side of the subject of psychology. A whole period of my life in high school was consumed by an obsession with personality psychology that had been invigorated in me because of his lectures. But alas, not even figures such as JP can escape the modern radicalization and disillusionment that has embittered the west.

As I transitioned out of high school, my worldview began to mature. I was no longer so sure about the more conservative arguments that I had been familiarized with. I began to realize that I was just as “ideologically possessed” as I had pretentiously claimed others to be. As I entered my twenties, this has resulted in an intense and sincere interest in developing a worldview I can firmly find footing on, and that is unique to me.
